about

When I was a kid, I moved a fair amount. So "the house that I grew up in" wasn't technically a thing. The only place that kept any kind of consistency in my life was my grandparents house. That's what this song is about.

I remember it always being filled with people, energy, and fun. I remember the yard being a place where'd both play AND work my ass off. I remember sitting under the willow tree next to the road. I remember being 7 years old and listening to Green Day & Morrissey cassettes upstairs. I remember everyone gathering around to table because we just got Pizza Hut delivered.

Now that my grandparents have grown old, it's all too different. Seeing the only consistent place I had growing up in its current state is difficult. That's what this song is about. I wrote it while looking at house from my parked car.

This is one of the most personal and honest songs I've ever written.

lyrics

These pillars, bricks, and stone
That have made up this home
Are crumbled and leaving me to roam
The steps to the front porch
Where I used to sit
And broken and it's all turned to shit

I'm not ready for this to end
I'm not ready for this to end

The stereo upstairs helped me
Find out who I should be
So I'll dig out my own heart
And put it between these walls
That make up these rooms and halls
That stayed in my life for all these years

I'm not ready for this to end
I'm not ready for this to end

I'll sit on the front porch
And I'll smoke just one more
Looking at the trees
Where the hammock used to be

Everything comes to an end
Everything comes to an end
Everything comes to an end
Everything comes to an end
